Farewell to the King

“In the midst of war, one man vanished into the jungle, and emerged as king.”

Learoyd (Nick Nolte) is an American soldier who slips away from the Japanese execution of his comrades in Borneo and ends up ruling the headhunters of the interior. When Captain Fairbourne (Nigel Havers) and a British commando team come asking him to rejoin the war, John Milius has him refuse them at first. Then the Japanese attack the people who took him in, and the kingdom he built is the thing he stands to lose.
