Lonnie "Lucky Man" Johnson (William Smith) hauls a drag-racing team across Western Canada until his sponsor pulls him from his own car and gives the seat to his archrival, Billy "The Kid" Brocker (Nicholas Campbell). Lonnie answers by stealing the car, with Sammy (Claudia Jennings) in his corner. David Cronenberg shot this at Edmonton International Speedway, and what the film cares about is a man who has nothing left except the one thing he does well.
