“You can close your eyes. You can turn away. But you will never forget.”

György Köves (Marcell Nagy) is 14 and wants nothing more than to keep his ordinary Budapest life going after his father is sent to a forced labor camp. He takes a job at a brickyard, and one day his bus is stopped and every Jewish passenger is sent to the camps. Lajos Koltai follows him through Auschwitz and Buchenwald, where the boy's closest tie is to Bandi Citrom (Áron Dimény), the older boy who shows him how to get by.
