In 1980, in an Italian-American family where every occasion is built around the table, Dominick DiNapoli (Dom DeLuise) loves to eat, and it shows. When an obese cousin dies of health problems, his sister Antoinette (Anne Bancroft), who also wrote and directed, sets out to get him to lose weight. Dom meets Lydia (Candice Azzara), a shop owner, and the two siblings pull him between her and the comfort of food.
