Fear and Desire

“Trapped… 4 desperate men and a strange half-animal girl!”

Four soldiers crawl out of a downed airplane in a forest behind enemy lines, with no clear way back to their battalion. Stanley Kubrick, in his first film as director, puts Lt. Corby (Kenneth Harp) and Mac (Frank Silvera) on the march through the trees, and a peasant girl (Virginia Leith) crosses their path. The film never names the war or the country, so the fear and hunger on their faces belong to any soldier in any war.
