Fedora, the great film star, has not been seen in public for years, and no one will say why she stays behind closed doors. Barry "Dutch" Detweiler (William Holden), a producer whose own career has run dry, goes after her with a script and a plan to bring her back. Billy Wilder sets him against Fedora (Marthe Keller), Doctor Vando (José Ferrer) and the people who guard her, and Dutch has a comeback to win and a truth about her to find.
