Lynn Markham (Joan Crawford) moves into her late husband's beach house the morning after its former tenant, Eloise Crandall, fell from the cliff. Her real estate agent and the beachcomber next door, Drummond Hall (Jeff Chandler), have already made themselves at home, and she has no doubt what they're after. Joseph Pevney films it as a studio-lit noir, a woman alone in a house she doesn't trust.
