Fever Mounts at El Pao

Ramón Vázquez (Gérard Philipe) is secretary to the governor of a Caribbean island, and he wants the governor's power and the governor's wife, Inés (María Félix), whose affair with him has already begun. When the despot Mariano Vargas is murdered by an enraged populace, Ramón takes control of both. Luis Buñuel sets Inés between him and Alejandro Gual (Jean Servais), the military man sent to turn her against Ramón.
