Fiddler on the Roof

“To Life!”

Tevye (Chaim Topol) is a poor milkman in the Ukrainian village of Anatevka, hauling his cart each day and arguing with God as if the two were old neighbors. He has five daughters to marry off, and the village matchmaker Yente (Molly Picon) has her own plans for them. Norman Jewison films the shtetl in muddy earth tones and lets John Williams's arrangements carry the songs.
