“Joe Don Baker is looking for trouble.”

Deputy Sheriff Thomas Jefferson Geronimo III (Joe Don Baker) has a violent past, and it has landed him at a rural outpost where nobody expects trouble. When two thugs kill the sheriff, Geronimo shoots one, and the other swears he will make him pay. Greydon Clark follows what happens when a lawman and a mob boss get stuck in the same chain of custody, and the film keeps asking who is really being held.
