“Thank you - thank you for everything.”

Nishi (Takeshi Kitano), a police detective, wants to put right a world that keeps turning against the people he loves. His wife (Kayoko Kishimoto) is suffering, and so are others close to him, and his methods grow more extreme the more he tries. Kitano also wrote and edited the film, with a score by Joe Hisaishi, and what it keeps returning to is how far a man will go for someone he cannot protect.
