First Cow

“A simple western about the origin of the American Dream.”

In 1820s Oregon Territory, there is exactly one cow, and it belongs to the Chief Factor (Toby Jones), a wealthy landowner who prizes it above everything else on his land. Cookie (John Magaro), a quiet traveling cook, and King-Lu (Orion Lee), a Chinese immigrant looking for his fortune, start taking its milk. Kelly Reichardt films the frontier at a slow, patient pace and gives the forest and the river as much time as the people.
