First Match

“This is HER fight.”

Monique (Elvire Emanuelle) has spent years in foster care in Brooklyn's Brownsville, and she wants her estranged father back. Her plan is to join the boys' wrestling team at her school, which means taking on teammates and rivals who never expected a girl on the mat. Olivia Newman builds the film around Monique and Darrel (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II), the father she is trying to reach, and the distance between them.
