First They Killed My Father

Loung (Sareum Srey Moch) is five years old in 1975 when the Khmer Rouge take Cambodia and her family is driven from home. Angelina Jolie, adapting Loung Ung's memoir, stays at a child's height as Loung is trained as a soldier while her siblings are sent to separate labor camps. Pa (Phoeung Kompheak) and Ma (Sveng Socheata) are somewhere behind her, their faces there to hold onto.
