Chen Zhen (Bruce Lee) comes back to Shanghai under Japanese occupation to find his teacher dead and the Japanese dojo across town still pressing on the Chinese school he left behind. Lo Wei films the fights in close, grainy takes, with Lee also choreographing the action himself. Underneath the revenge is a plainer idea: a man tries to defend his people's dignity against an occupier who has already decided they are small.
