Fitzcarraldo

“Dare to dream the impossible.”

Fitzcarraldo (Klaus Kinski), an Irishman known in Iquitos, Peru, by that name, is set on building an opera house in the middle of the Amazon rainforest. To pay for it he goes after rubber in a remote, unexplored stretch of jungle, and the plan hinges on hauling a steamship over a mountain. Werner Herzog puts that scheme at the center, and the film treats a stubborn dream as a thing a man can mistake for a plan.
