“Did a Woman Start the Rout of Rommel?”

In June 1942, Corporal Bramble (Franchot Tone), a British soldier cut off from his unit in the North African desert, stumbles into a hotel that Erwin Rommel (Erich von Stroheim) has taken over as his headquarters. To stay alive he takes the dead house waiter's place, and Billy Wilder keeps him moving between the staff and the Germans. Bramble thinks about killing the Field Marshal, and every hour in the building raises what a discovery would cost him.
