In 1962, Lisa Macklin (Sophia Loren), an Italian-born wife living in poverty, tells her husband she plans to file for divorce before his plane leaves for Casablanca. Robert (Anthony Perkins), an American ex-Air Force man turned businessman, answers her with jealousy and the temper of a boy. Anatole Litvak keeps the two of them in the same rooms, a marriage that neither can walk out of cleanly.
