Flag Day

(2021)Directed by Sean Penn108 min · RDrama, Thriller, Crime
“Loving his daughter was the only honest work he ever did.”

The film opens on Flag Day, the Fourth of July's quieter cousin in a family that keeps its own calendar, as young Jennifer Vogel (Dylan Penn) watches her father, John (Sean Penn), as the most charming man she knows. John is a counterfeiter, bank robber and con man, and he tells himself it all provides for her. Sean Penn directs from Jennifer's memoir, and what holds the story together is how fiercely the two of them cling to each other.
