“Pathetic earthlings...who can save you now?”

Earth is under attack from the planet Mongo, and the cause is Ming the Merciless (Max von Sydow), an emperor who toys with the world for sport. Football quarterback Flash Gordon (Sam J. Jones) and travel agent Dale Arden (Melody Anderson) are pulled aboard Dr. Hans Zarkov's (Chaim Topol) rocket and flung toward him. Mike Hodges sends them into a loud, bright kingdom, where Flash and Dale lean on each other as strangers in it.
