Floating Weeds

Why does Komajuro Arashi (Ganjirō Nakamura II), the aging lead of a traveling kabuki troupe, keep steering his company back to one small seaside town? The answer is Oyoshi (Haruko Sugimura), his old mistress, and the grown son (Hiroshi Kawaguchi) who believes Komajuro is only his uncle. Yasujirō Ozu lets that secret sit between the two men, and between Komajuro and Sumiko (Machiko Kyō), the actress who has traveled beside him for years.
