In San Francisco's Chinatown, Mei Li (Miyoshi Umeki) steps off a boat from Hong Kong with a plan to marry the nightclub owner 'Sammy' Fong (Jack Soo). She does not know he is seeing Linda Low (Nancy Kwan), the star singer in his club. Henry Koster fills the songs with crowds and bright costumes, and Mei Li ends up closer to Wang Ta (James Shigeta) than to the man she came for.
