A bandit named El Indio (Gian Maria Volonté) has a large price on his head, and two men set out after it separately. Manco (Clint Eastwood) is a bounty hunter who works alone, and Colonel Mortimer (Lee Van Cleef) is another, older and just as unwilling to share the money. Sergio Leone lets the two circle each other under the sun, and neither man tells the other why he really wants Indio.
