For Love and Gold

(1966)Directed by Mario Monicelli120 minComedy, Adventure

In the Middle Ages, a band of rogues steals a scroll that grants its bearer the land of Aurocastro, in Apulia, down in the south of Italy. They pick Brancaleone da Norcia (Vittorio Gassman), a shaggy knight, to lead them, and Mario Monicelli sends the whole ragged company south toward an estate they believe is rich. Brancaleone has the title and the big talk, and he keeps both up through every misadventure on the road.
