For the Boys

(1991)Directed by Mark Rydell138 minDrama, Music, Comedy, War
“Laughter and tears. Tragedy and triumph. They lived it all. For the boys.”

In 1942, with American troops shipping out to the war, the singer Dixie Leonard (Bette Midler) is paired with Eddie Sparks (James Caan), a famous comedian, to entertain soldiers overseas for the USO. Mark Rydell follows the two of them from World War II through Vietnam and into the 1990s. Their act keeps them together for fifty years, and the quarrels and affection between them are never settled.
