“Success in Hollywood is as fragile as a rumor”

Marilyn Hack (Catherine O'Hara) is a veteran actress with a long list of small credits, now working on Home for Purim, a low-budget drama set in the 1940s American South. Then a rumor starts moving through the set: her performance, and those of Victor Allan Miller (Harry Shearer) and Callie Webb (Parker Posey), may be headed for Oscar nominations. Christopher Guest lets the buzz spread in the same flat, unhurried way he filmed his earlier ensemble comedies.
