Forever Amber

(1947)Directed by Otto Preminger138 minDrama, History, Romance

England in the years after the Civil War, and Amber St. Clair (Linda Darnell), an orphan raised by farmers, has made up her mind to be a lady. When a party of cavaliers rides through her town, she slips away with them to London and the court of King Charles II (George Sanders). Otto Preminger's film treats ambition as a hunger, and Amber's is for rank and money, which she is willing to take from anyone who has them.
