In 1939, test pilot Daniel McCormick (Mel Gibson) can't bear to watch the woman he loves lie in a coma, so he asks his best friend to freeze him for a year. He wakes in 1992, and Steve Miner follows him as he is taken in by Claire Cooper (Jamie Lee Curtis) and her young son Nat (Elijah Wood). What Daniel wants most is to find out what became of the life he left, and he has no way of knowing how much of it is still there.
