“A new element in screen suspense”

A young man steps out onto a ledge fifteen floors above a New York street, and the traffic below slows as people start to look up. Police Officer Charlie Dunnigan (Paul Douglas) climbs out to talk to Robert Cosick (Richard Basehart), a man who feels his parents never loved him and fears he can't make his girlfriend happy. Henry Hathaway keeps the hours counting down, and every one that passes is another chance for Robert to let go.
