Legs (Raven Adamson) wants the girls around her to stop taking whatever the boys and the grown men hand out. In 1950s upstate New York she pulls Maddy (Katie Coseni), Rita (Madeleine Bisson), Goldie (Claire Mazerolle) and Violet (Rachael Nyhuus) into a gang of their own, adapted by Laurent Cantet from Joyce Oates's novel. They are teenagers answering to no one, and everything they have is staked on staying together.
