“I shot my wife... prove it.”

Ted Crawford (Anthony Hopkins) is an engineer who shoots his unfaithful wife and then calmly admits it. Willy Beachum (Ryan Gosling), an ambitious assistant district attorney, sees a case he can close in an afternoon before moving to a private firm. Gregory Hoblit keeps the courtroom exchanges tight and orderly, with the procedural details laid out as carefully as the evidence.
