Mike Lambert (Glenn Ford) is a mining engineer out of work and driving a truck, hoping the next town will have a job in it. When his rig breaks down, he meets Paula Craig (Janis Carter), who sees a stranger she can use. Richard Wallace builds a low-budget crime picture around a plain idea: a man with no money and no name in town is easy to pin a crime on.
