“I'm not messy, I'm busy.”

Frances Halladay (Greta Gerwig) is 27, a dancer in New York who can't say when exactly things stopped working. Her best friend Sophie (Mickey Sumner) is moving on with her life, and Frances's career, money and apartments start slipping away together. Baumbach shoots it in black and white and lets Frances's days run loose, one borrowed couch and one bad idea after the next.
