Francesco

Francesco (Mickey Rourke) is a rich young man of Assisi, a soldier and prisoner of war, who gives up his father's wealth to live among the poor. Liliana Cavani tells it through the followers who gather after his death so that Leone can write down what they remember. Chiara (Helena Bonham Carter), the future Saint Clare, takes up the same life of poverty beside him.
