Guy (Ryan Reynolds) is a cheerful bank teller in a bustling city who one day realizes he is not real, just code in a massive online game. When the game faces shutdown, he teams up with Millie (Jodie Comer), a player hunting for evidence of stolen code, to save it from deletion. The city glitches around them, buildings fracturing and reforming, as Guy moves through the world knowing he might disappear before the final frame.
