French Connection II

Alain Charnier (Fernando Rey), the smuggler who slipped away from the New York police, has vanished into Marseille, and no one will say where. "Popeye" Doyle (Gene Hackman) follows him there, a loud American cop who speaks no French and answers to a local inspector, Henri Barthélémy (Bernard Fresson). John Frankenheimer drops Doyle into a foreign city with no authority, and the only thing driving him is a job that stayed unfinished.
