Fresh

“In a world where criminals make the rules, an innocent boy is out to beat them at their own game.”

Michael (Sean Nelson), called Fresh, is twelve and already runs drugs for two rival dealers in a Brooklyn neighborhood. Between deliveries he plays speed chess with his father (Samuel L. Jackson), an alcoholic who hustles the game in the park for money. Boaz Yakin, in his first feature, keeps the camera at the boy's eye level, and Nelson stays quiet and watchful, a child's face moving over the board.
