“TODAY - THE POND... TOMORROW - THE WORLD!”

On a private island estate in the Southern swamps, the Crockett family gathers for the birthday of Jason Crockett (Ray Milland), a disabled millionaire who has spent years poisoning everything that crawls across his land. The photographer Pickett Smith (Sam Elliott), in a canoe to shoot a pollution layout, ends up a guest at the table. George McCowan keeps the house and the swamp side by side, and Pickett and Karen (Joan Van Ark) begin to share the same unease.
