“The Woman He's About to Touch is a Dream. The Murder He's About to Commit is Not.”

A man has committed a murder, and the film circles back through the days before it and the aftermath to find out why. Peter Egerman (Robert Atzorn), a businessman, is married to Katarina (Christine Buchegger), and the two have worn each other down. Ingmar Bergman, working in West Germany during his tax exile, shoots nearly all of it in black and white, and Peter is the one who has to answer for it.
