In London, after her daughter dies, Julia Lofting (Mia Farrow) walks out on her husband Magnus (Keir Dullea) and moves into an old Victorian house to start over. Richard Loncraine keeps the rooms quiet and close around her while she tries to live ordinarily. But the grief she brought with her is joined by the ghosts of other children, and Julia's hold on her own mind is what's at risk.
