Steven Soderbergh follows a handful of Hollywood people through the hours before a friend's birthday party, among them Lee (Catherine Keener), Linda (Mary McCormack) and Gus (David Duchovny). Some of them are making a film, some are acting in it, and the line between the two keeps slipping. Shot on digital video in under a month, it treats the people around a movie set as just as unsure of who they are as the characters they play.
