Colonel Stok (Oskar Homolka), the Soviet officer in charge of security at the Berlin Wall, seems ready to defect, but the evidence keeps pointing both ways. He asks the British to handle it and requests one agent by name. Guy Hamilton sends Harry Palmer (Michael Caine) into Berlin to get him out, and Palmer has to work with a case he does not trust.
