“Chevy Chase finds life in the country isn't what it's cracked up to be!”

Andy Farmer (Chevy Chase) quits his job as a sportswriter and moves to a small country town with his schoolteacher wife Elizabeth (Madolyn Smith Osborne), planning to write a novel in peace. The town has other ideas, and its eccentric locals turn up with one problem after another. George Roy Hill, in his last film as director, keeps Andy at the center, a man who came looking for quiet and has to find out what else he's made of.
