Gabbeh

“Life is Colour. Love is Colour.”

An old couple carry their gabbeh to a stream to wash it, bickering gently over the work, when a young woman steps out of nowhere and takes up the cloth beside them. She is Gabbeh (Shaghayeh Djodat), and she belongs to the clan whose story is woven into the rug's design, including a stranger who followed her tribe and courted her. Mohsen Makhmalbaf lets her tell it, and what she tells is how Gabbeh and the rider waiting for her come to care for each other.
