Gallipoli

(1981)Directed by Peter Weir112 min · PGWar, History, Drama
“From a place you never heard of...a story you'll never forget.”

Archy Hamilton (Mark Lee), a young sprinter from Western Australia, enlists in the Army in 1915 and drags along Frank Dunne (Mel Gibson), a faster and warier runner he met on the track. Peter Weir follows them from the Western Australian country to Gallipoli on the way to the Ottoman Empire, with their friendship tested by the war's slow loss of innocence. The film's final image holds on a young man running.
