Gamera, the Giant Monster

“Striking down jets, grabbing hold of the Tokyo Tower, flying through the air breathing fire, the giant monster of the century!”

Dr. Hidaka (Eiji Funakoshi) wants to understand the giant turtle that wakes beneath the Arctic ice after a nuclear blast, before the army decides to simply destroy it. Gamera goes looking for energy and flies across the world, with a young boy who feels a strange kinship with it. Noriaki Yuasa stages the whole thing in black and white, with the destruction built from miniature cities and a man in a rubber shell.
