General Della Rovere

Somewhere in German-occupied Italy, a partisan commander is dead, and the Gestapo wants nobody to know it. Bardone (Vittorio De Sica), a petty con man who fleeces desperate families, is blackmailed into taking the dead general's name and sitting among the prisoners to draw out what they know. Rossellini puts him opposite Colonel Mueller (Hannes Messemer), and Bardone starts to find the false name fits him.
