Moscow in the 1990s is a city of gangsters, new money and billboards going up faster than anyone can read them. Babylen Tatarsky, a poet turned adman, climbs through Russia's young advertising business, and Victor Ginzburg adapts Victor Pelevin's novel as a comedy that runs on a manic pitch. Under the noise, the film treats advertising as the thing that fills the space where belief used to be.
