A thousand-page manuscript lands on the desk of Max Perkins (Colin Firth), the New York editor who signed Hemingway and F. Scott Fitzgerald. The writer is Thomas Wolfe (Jude Law), an unknown whose pages pour out of him without any sense of where to stop. Michael Grandage sets the two men in Perkins's office, where the editor keeps his hat on and the manuscript is stacked in front of him.
