Gentleman's Agreement
Phil Green (Gregory Peck) is a magazine writer who has just moved to New York and wants an angle on antisemitism that will make readers pay attention. He decides to tell everyone he meets that he is Jewish, and to see what changes at the office, in hotels, and among the wealthy neighbors in New Canaan and Darien. Elia Kazan keeps the camera on ordinary rooms and polite conversation, so the damage comes from tone and small pauses.
